ALEXANDER PAIGE 2001 Painting on Canvas – “Blond Martini”

This early painting of the artist Alexander Paige’s first girlfriend Annadera Vallely was produced as a rebellion away from traditional oil painting specifically a portrait painting class taught by Jeff Watts & Andrew Burwood Hoy Atelier Art School in Southern California.  After hours of “rules & regulation” & torture of academic “rights & wrongs” in traditional painting, Alexander Paige went to his first studio & produced a portrait of Annadera Vallely drawn with viscous Acrylic House Paint.  A modest glaze in copal painting medium & linseed oil ties the color of the image together.  This simple painting was a rebellious exploration in an attempt to “find his own voice” as an artist, specifically working with viscous house paint which matches the high energy & spontaneity of the artist.  This painting was produced in 2001 at the time of the death of the artist’s best friend.
