ALEXANDER PAIGE – 2022 Color Ink & Pastel Drawing “Artist Straight Jacket”
This self portrait of the artist Alexander Paige is depicted wearing a strait jacket next to a small table with a bottle is symbolic of the metamorphosis the artist is going through. Formerly living a life of decadence and excess, the artist now exists in a world of isolation. The drawing shows a man depicted caged up and bound by the “Straight Jacket” as a symbol and is an expression of both simplicity and the personal celebration of freedom of life and beauty. The simplicity of shape of the male robot is met with the dichotomy and presence of pure color in an explosion of life. The artist celebrates his own voice portraying the bond between a man and a woman. Alexander Paige expresses his own gratitude for living and the ability to experience sunlight, draw with color, have conversation and a general appreciation for life as a whole.
