ALEXANDER PAIGE – 2001 Portrait Transfer “Abe Red”
This painting of Abraham Lincoln was produced in 2001 in the artists first studio. Abe, who was a bootlegger & the fifth President of the United States of America was painted by applying a black and white image to canvas matte medium, hot water & Brillo to remove the paper with the ink from the image remains existing in the matte medium. Alexander Paige then did a lite glaze in copal painting medium & linseed oil with house paint. The surrounding background is a flat acrylic red & a splatter of acrylic paint. Abe Lincoln was assassinated. This series of paintings, & this painting in particular were small & produced after looking at paintings from Andy Warhola as an exercise in painting. This painting is currently held by the family of Alexander Paige.
