ALEXANDER PAIGE – 2001 Painting on Canvas “Abyss”

This large scale abstract expressive painting was produced by throwing down acrylic house paint, inspired by Jackson Pollock.  The painting is comprised primarily of an oil paint wash with Linseed Oil & Copal Paintings Medium mixed with Acrylic House Paint Stretched Canvas over large railroad ties. This painting was produced in the inception of Alexander Paige painting career & depicts the vast open-ness or empty-ness of the ocean & life living & life lost in the sudden and tragic passing of a best friend.   Painting was inspired by the concept of “going it alone” & “finding yourself in pain” as well as “existing in nothing.”  As time continues & this painting continues to exist, the concept of “living on” & “perceived” reality is suggested in this painting.  Alexander Paige studied Ancient Greek philosophy specifically Socrates which somehow references this specific painting, “The first step to knowing anything, is admitting you know nothing.” Socrates was stoned to death for that concept.  The inception of Alexander Paige’s art career features this painting, “Abyss.”
